A Danish vessel with a crew of three Danish officers and four Filipinos repelled an attack by Somali pirates this morning in the Gulf of Aden.

As pirates attempted to attack the vessel, crewmembers fired emergency flares, forcing the pirates to pull back and keeping them at bay until help arrived.

The M/V Puma is owned by the Danish Shipcraft company whose CEO Per Nykjær Jensen told TV2 that the vessel had followed sailing directions suggested by the international naval force in the region. Nonetheless, pirates attempted to hijack the vessel.

Nykjær Jensen said the officers and crew on board the vessel were ‘shocked but well”.
